Forget back Pain and enjoy that trip you deserve

Are you thinking twice about taking a trip but are feeling hesitant because of back pain that may occur? Whether your mode of transportation is by air or car, you will be sitting in cramped quarters for quite a while, so let’s have you prepared for your trip. Don’t let back pain stop you from traveling. Your Niagara chiropractor wants you to enjoy your travels. Here are some tips for your trip with your back and comfort in mind.

If you are traveling by air, book your seat ahead of time. Business or first class is the most comfortable seating on an airplane but it’s the most expensive. If you can afford it, book your ticket in one of these airplane cabins. The wide seats and extra legroom are invaluable to those who suffer from back pain. Flying in coach, book your seat in front of an exit. These seats generally are reserved first because of the extra legroom and you won’t have to climb over people to move around. Speaking of which, make a point of standing and stretching every twenty to thirty minutes. If you can’t book a seat near the exit, try to book an aisle seat.

If you’re traveling by car, there are a few steps you can take with your comfort in mind. Be sure to sit up straight. Your knees should be a little higher than your hips and to keep your head well-balanced over your spine, pull in your chin. Whether or not you’re driving, make sure your back is against the seat. If you’re the driver, sit a comfortable distance from the steering wheel. You don’t want to have to reach too far for the controls because you could add undue stress to your body while reaching. Like flying, take breaks to stretch and walk around.

Here’s a quick list to have you covered on in a plane or a car:

 ·  Sit up straight

 ·  Put your feet squarely on the ground

 ·  Support your lower back with a small pillow or rolled-up sweater

 ·  Empty your back pockets

 ·  Buy a travel pillow if you’re a passenger

 ·  If you can, stretch out your travel time

The bottom line is need you need to be as comfortable as possible while keeping your back healthy. Before you leave on your travels, be sure that you have spoken to your Niagara Chiropractic professional and let them know of your plans. The start of a new year often brings a wave of motivation. We set goals to eat better, exercise more, and improve our overall well-being. While these resolutions are fantastic, one crucial aspect of our health is frequently overlooked: our spine. Think of your spine as the foundation of your body. When it's not aligned, it can affect everything else. This January is the perfect opportunity to make spinal health a priority.

The first heavy snowfall of the season brings a certain kind of quiet beauty. But it also brings the chore many of us dread: shovelling. While it might seem like just another task, shovelling is a strenuous physical activity. Rushing out into the cold without preparing your body is a recipe for injury. A few minutes of warming up can make all the difference between a clear driveway and a painful trip to the doctor.

Slouching over a desk or phone is a common habit, but it can lead to more than just a temporarily sore neck. Poor posture contributes to back pain, muscle imbalances, and even reduced lung capacity over time. While you might try to consciously sit up straight, a more lasting solution lies in building the physical foundation for good posture. Strength training is a powerful tool that can help you stand taller, move better, and feel stronger.

Have you ever stopped to think about how you walk? This seemingly simple, automatic action is known as your gait. It's your personal pattern of movement when you walk or run. While you may not give it much thought, your gait is a complex process involving your brain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles, and bones, all working in harmony. It's also a powerful indicator of your overall health. An efficient gait allows you to move freely and without pain. But when something is off, it can lead to a domino effect of issues, from sore knees to chronic back pain. Understanding your gait is the first step toward addressing these problems and improving your quality of life.
